Ambulance Project

11th Battalion AIF Living History Group are soon to embark on building a Model T Ford based Australian Ambulance.  The Model T Ford has been sourced and purchased and requires general cosmetic work as well as the construction of the wooden body of the ambulance.

Skilled and interested parties will be more than welcome to participate in this exciting new project.  Sponsors are also welcome.

At present the Model T was being restored to a delivery van .  The wooden components of this restoration will be removed  and replaced by another all wood framed ambulance body, being much wider to accommodate stretcher bunks.

The engine runs and all the running gear is in good fully restored condition.

That being said, the Model T does not drive like a modern car having no specific gears, relying instead on the position of levers and pedals to determine high and low rations and speed.  Fortunately, Mike Marsh, the generous seller of this Model T is as adept at driving them as he is building them and has agreed to give lessons to avoid the tragedy of an amazing replica ambulance project being unceremoniously destroyed before it has left the shed!

Now up and running:

The skeleton of the delivery truck needs to be removed to allow a new body to be constructed, wider  and much longer to allow for stretchers.
